DTSL Group Announcement: Announcing a New Chapter in DTSL Group Leadership

Ian McGough enters new phase welcoming Mark Muru as the new DTSL Group CEO

After nearly three decades at the helm of the DTSL Group, founder and Managing Director Ian McGough is entering a new phase in his distinguished career. With a remarkable 45 years in the Information Technology sector—including 16 years with Unisys New Zealand—Ian’s vision and leadership have been the cornerstone of DTSL’s evolution since its inception in 1997. From a small office with just six staff, DTSL has grown into a dynamic group employing over 220 professionals across 19 branches nationwide.

While Ian steps back from day-to-day operations, he will continue serving as Director and Chairman, focusing on governance, strategic direction, and exploring investment opportunities outside the Group. His legacy as a visionary remains, guiding the company’s ongoing pursuit of excellence.

DTSL Group today comprises six specialist brands: DTSL Field Services, Totality Managed Services, LANWorx Networking, PCMedia Technologies, NZ Managed IT, and Assistive Technology. Each brand delivers tailored services to their markets while collaborating as a unified entity, ensuring comprehensive solutions for clients across Aotearoa.

Effective immediately, Mark Muru steps into the role of Group Chief Executive Officer, ushering in a new era for DTSL. Mark joined DTSL earlier in 2025 as Group Services Director and brings with him more than 30 years of experience scaling IT businesses across Australasia. His credentials include 21 years at Datacom as Managing Director for the Public Sector in Australia and New Zealand, as well as a history of successful partnerships and transformative growth initiatives.

Reflecting on Mark’s appointment, Ian shared, “I’ve known Mark for many years, having worked together at Unisys in the early 1990s. I have full confidence in his leadership and experience. He will bring new ideas and energy to the Group for significant growth.”

Mark expressed his excitement for the journey ahead: “Ian has built a trusted, exceptional company and legacy that I am honoured to join. I will focus on driving measured growth for the Group. We will leverage our deep heritage of execution, blending it with new technologies and innovation delivering material value for customers.”

As DTSL approaches its 30th anniversary, Mark’s leadership focuses on sustainable growth, innovation, and delivering outstanding value to clients.

Ian concluded, “I’m extremely proud and grateful to all current and former employees, clients and partners whose commitment and support have been instrumental to our success. It has been a privilege to lead such an exceptional team, and I look forward to supporting the Group’s continued growth and innovation in my new capacity.”

We extend our deepest gratitude to Ian for his leadership and vision, and warmly welcome Mark as he guides the talented DTSL teams into an exciting new chapter.
